Marysville welcomes back the rail service: A new train station is on the horizon
Marysville, California, is set to reintroduce passenger rail service through the North Valley Rail Project, an initiative led by the Butte County Association of Governments (BCAG). This project aims to extend passenger rail services from Natomas in Sacramento to Chico, with planned stops in Plumas Lake, Marysville-Yuba City, and Gridley.
The proposed Marysville-Yuba City station will serve as a key transit hub, enhancing connectivity for residents and contributing to the region's economic growth. The project is currently in the strategic planning phase, with a draft plan completed in late 2023 and a final plan expected by March 2024. Service is anticipated to commence by July 2031, initially offering four daily round trips with potential for future expansion.
This development marks a significant milestone for Marysville, which has been without passenger rail service since the closure of its last station, a former stop on the Southern Pacific Shasta Route.

The North Valley Rail Project is poised to provide Marysville residents with enhanced transportation options, improved access to jobs and educational opportunities, and a direct link to California's broader rail network, including future connections to the high-speed rail system.
